ESET Crowned “Best Antivirus Product” by AV-Comparatives

Honor Bestowed on Security Leader for Second Straight Year

SAN DIEGO – December 19, 2007 – ESET, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced that its award-winning ESET NOD32 Antivirus was named “Best Antivirus Product of 2007” by AV-Comparatives, an independent research outlet that tests antivirus software. Over 17 products were tested throughout the year, with winners from a range of categories including on-demand scanning speed, polymorphic virus detection and number of false positives generated.  ESET NOD32 Antivirus was named the overall winner for the second consecutive year.

According to AV-Comparatives, to capture “Best Antivirus Product of 2007,” the product must have high detection rates (including detection of difficult polymorphic viruses), high proactive detection rates, very few false positives, be fast with low system impact, cause no crashes or hangs and have no noticeable bugs.

ESET NOD32 Antivirus led the pack because of its ThreatSense® technology, an advanced heuristics engine that enables proactive detection of malware not covered by even the most frequently updated signature-based products. Unlike traditional solutions, ESET NOD32 Antivirus decodes and analyzes executable code in real-time, using an emulated environment. By allowing malware to execute in a secure virtual world, ESET is able to clearly differentiate between benign files and even the most sophisticated and cleverly-disguised malware.

“In our four years of testing antivirus products, we still haven’t found one that can rival ESET’s advanced heuristics,” said Andreas Clementi, founder and chief researcher at AV-Comparatives.  “As a result, ESET consistently outperforms the competition in proactively detecting viruses and generating very few false positives without causing system slowdown, therefore earning the title of ‘Best Antivirus Product of 2007.’”
